The State University of New York (SUNY) it is a public university
system in New York, United States and was established in 1948 by Governor
Thomas E. Dewey through legislative implementation of recommendations made by
the Temporary Commission of the Need for a state University (1946 – 1948).
Since 1948 SUNY has grown to include 64 individual colleges and
universities that were either formerly independent institutions or directly
founded by the State University of New York.
The State University of New York’s 64 campuses are divided into
four categories based on educational mission, types of academic opportunities
available and degrees offered.

students from all over the world. Of more than 467,000 total students, nearly
23,000 are international students from 160 nations around the globe.
